Emergency management officals encourage residents to be mindful of the following safety issues as they begin recovery from the storm:
- Make sure your vehicles’ exhaust pipes are clear of ice and snow to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Avoid walking under awnings and other light weight canopies.
- Make sure you have more than one exterior door unblocked so that you can get out in case of emergency.
- Watch for overhanging snow and ice that may become dislodged and fall suddenly.
- If you live near fire hydrants, clear them so they are visible and accessible to emergency responders.
- Clear a path to storm drains to avoid flooding when the snow starts to melt.
